Test For Doping With YK11 - Mind And Muscle

About five years ago YK11 came on the market: a steroid-like substance developed by Japanese scientists with an anabolic effect. YK11 is a SARM, but also a myostatin inhibitor. It became popular as a research chemical and ‘rogue supplement’. German doping hunters from the German Sport University Cologne have developed a doping test for this curious substance.

The researchers analyzed the urine of a volunteer who had used 5 milligrams of YK11, and found two metabolites – M1 and M2 – in reasonably high concentrations. They developed a test that can measure these metabolites. The test could, at least with the volunteer, demonstrate the use of YK11 for at least 2 days after intake of a single dose of 5 milligrams.

In use

The test for YK11 is already in use, the researchers write. Already 3000 samples, taken from routine doping controls, have been investigated – but no YK11 has yet been discovered.

“To date, despite being available on the black market since more than three years, YK11 does not seem to be particularly problematic regarding doping and professional sports”, the Germans write.

“Nevertheless, YK11 belongs to the list of prohibited substances according to the World Anti-Doping Agency and therefore screening for YK11 metabolites will continue.”
