Collagenic Protein Overview
Collagen protein is extracted from the hooves, cartilage and joints of pigs and cattle. It is a pretty low grade protein over all, but it does provide a good boost in protein that is convenient and tasty. Ordinarily Collagen protein isn’t used in bodybuilding (basically being just “Jello”(R)) because it isn’t terribly complete as a protein source, but for someone that is looking to increase total dietary intake in a very convenient manner, collagen does the trick. Better grades of collagen are nearly flavorless and colorless and have over 90% protein by weight, making them attractive packaging for the average person who wants something tasty and convenient. Sometimes collagen is mixed with other proteins to increase its nutrient profile, which can help make it a better source of protein for the person on the go. Overall, collagen protein is fine for a quick snack or a supplemental protein source, but it isn’t the best source to build quality muscle.
