Its funny how hard it is to get people to take fish oil. Despite decades of the media and their TV physicians promoting all its benefits, people just won’t do it. If they do, its always under dosed. To get the best results you need 3 grams of Omega 3, not just 3 grams of fish oil. Most 1 gram fish oil caps have only 300 mg of Omega 3, thus you need 10 regular strength fish oil gel caps a day, or 3 triple strength per day.
Aside from the enormous health benefits which I’m sure you already know (if not click on the orange word Omega 3; its a hyperlink to a full description), Omega 3s indirectly build muscle. There was a study done in London on the muscle building effects of Omega 3 Fatty acids. After 8 weeks there was no difference in the muscle size, protein density or mTOR activity UNLESS it was infused with insulin and amino acids. In that case mTOR (mammalian target of rapamycin) and Protein to DNA ratio were much higher. This means to me that the Omega 3 fatty acids make muscle cells more sensitive to insulin and if amino acids are present this increased insulin sensitivity drives more amino acids into the cell than before the Omega 3 treatment. Lucine, one of the Branch Chain Amino Acids (BCAA), activates mTOR and begins the muscle building process.
