Longjack is also known as eurycoma longifolia, tonkat ali, and pasak bumi. Longjack has been given the nickname “Malaysian ginseng”, as the roots of the plant have been used by Malaysian men to increase sex drive and fertility. Longjack root is included in many testosterone boosting and pro-sexual supplements because of its libido increasing effects and because it is believed to boost total testosterone levels and increase levels of free testosterone. It can also be purchased by itself in capsules or as a bulk powder.
Current research supports the use of longjack as an aphrodisiac and to increase fertility in men. Longjack has been shown to increase spermatogenesis, sperm count, and semen volume. The exact mechanism by which longjack exerts these effects is not fully understood. The effects of longjack may be in part due to increased total and free testosterone levels.
