Dexter Jackson is looking Monstrous for the 2014 Olympia

Dexter “The Blade” Jackson is one legendary bodybuilder.  No man has ever achieved so many diverse victories as Dexter, as i will detail below. But the most impressive thing of all is Dexter is competing in this years Mr. Olympia competition weighing more than he has ever before! Dexter took 1 year off after the 2013 Olympia to put on more mass and it shows! At 45 years old and 5’4” he may be the king of kings once again. To be the most masculine man in the world with age and height working against him is no easy feat, but if anyone can do it its Dexter.

The Legend Begins

Dexter Jackson's transition from the lowest weight class (Bantam) to the top of the pro circuit. Only time ever in history. throne of Mount Olympus, never before in history had this been achieved nor has it since.

Dexter Jackson’s transition from the lowest weight class (Bantam) to the top of the pro circuit.  Never before in history had this been achieved nor has it since.

Dexter competed for his first time in 1991.  He was a Bantam weight at 135 lbs. In 1998 the Blade won the overall as a Light Heavy (176-198 lbs ) at the North American Championship. At this moment he turned pro, which is like getting “Made”.

This is an anomaly as usually the overall title goes to a Super Heavy (>225)  or a heavy (199-224).  Additionally those classes are traditionally place better in pro competitions where there are no longer weight classes.

In his rookie year he placed 7th in the Arnold in 1999 and placed 9th in the Olympia that same year.  This is an incredible rookie year, but the hits keep coming…

The Blade competed in 21 more pro shows over the next few years until he won his first pro show in 2002, and he won the Arnold classic in 2005! That is the second biggest pro show in the world! He won it again in 2006, 2007, and 2013. He ties Flex Wheeler for the record of most Arnold classic wins.

…And History Was Made

In 2008 something strange happened.  For the first time ever a giant slayer of under 220 lbs who climbed their way up the ranks from the very bottom (bantamweight class) achieved the unthinkable, the title of Mr. Olympia.

That day he beat out the previous Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler and the future Mr. Olympia Phil Heath.  This made him one of three athletes to claim the title of Mr. O and Arnold classic winner.

But thats not all; In 2012 Dexter won the Masters Olympia thus obtaining all 3 major titles of the sport: Arnold classic winner, Mr. Olympia, and Masters Olympia winner.  He is the only person to ever do this.

The Legend Continues

An amazing off season for Dexter Jackson. It will exciting to see what he has in store for us at the 2014 Olympia

With IFBB Pro Charles “Cut Like” Glass as a trainer and IFBB Pro George Farah as a nutritionist Dexter has some bad dudes in his corner.  To go from 135 lbs to 245 stage weight is incredible, and in his mid forties he has put more mass on this year than ever before, 15 lbs!

20 years of competing and the most prestigious list of titles this world has ever seen.  One of the 13 men who have claimed the title of Mr. O since its inception 50 years ago (2 years before the superbowl).

If you ever see his videos he’s not like Branch screaming and throwing the weights around with sloppy form. Dexter is cool and collected in designer sportswear cranking out textbook perfect reps with a reasonable amount of weight like Phil Heath, Shawn Rhoden, and several other bodybuilders who put a premium on having a pleasing physique not just a ball of veiny mass.

As a 5’4” bodybuilder who started as a bantam myself I have a special place in my heart for Dexter. If he can do it why can’t I? Its nice to have heroes to pave the way for you, to prove the impossible is possible.  Thanks Dex!
