What is the Best Pre Workout?
The best pre-workout would be a preworkout which does what a preworkout is supposed to do, discloses what’s in the pre-workout and is appropriately priced for what it is. Ideally the best pre-workout would be the same ingredients as the other pre-workouts with the correct amounts to give you the best workout and the best results from that workout at the same or lower price than what the competitors offer.
What is a Pre Workout?
Before we explore what is the best pre-workout we need to establish what a pre-workout is so we can compare. A pre workout is a powder you add to water and drink before you workout. The purpose of the pre workout is to give you more nitric oxide to enhance the pump you get from working out, as well as provide other ingredients to enhance the workout making you train harder and get more out of it, and some have ingredients which help the food you eat post workout build more muscle.
What a pre workout is not for is giving you so much stimulants you get high, but dont get the same blood flow to the target muscles.
Most pre-workouts on the market have a ton of stimulants but no active ingredients for creating a pump. This creates an addiction over time and people become addicted to working out assuming they only have their pre workout before they lift. This working out addiction is usually quite manic and not that effective for getting bigger, only getting smaller. In an attempt to not go a day without the preworkout, the person will skip rest days and train every day, sometimes more than once a day.
I was just at the Arnold and I was pleased to see how many of the companies disclose how much (little) ingredients are actually included in their pre workouts. Almost NONE had any NO in their NO products, one example, Musclemeds had 0 mg of any NO precursor. In other words there is no NO in NO Bull, which makes it just plain Bull. It was clear instantly I had absolutely no competition but the marketers, their chemists were retarded.
C4 is a GOOD pre workout. It has Creatine, Caffeine, Beta Alanine and Arginine, these are the 4 main ingredients in a pre workout. The label tells you to take 1-2 scoops, but you would need 3 scoops to get the right amounts of the ingredients to compare to the gold standard amounts of these ingredients: 3 scoops of C4 would give you:
400 mg Caffeine, 3000 mg Arginine-AKG, 3000 mg Creatine and 4500 mg beta alanine.
The caffeine and the beta alanine are high, and they are included in such amounts to create the sense of being “on something” for the user. The caffeine is a stimulant and in this form at that dose you get super high. The beta alanine makes your skin burn and itch and your stomach hurt at this dose as well. This makes the feel like its “working” Unfortunately the Arginine is still only 3 g and the creatine is only 3 grams. thats the right amount of both actually but thats only 1 form of NO precursor, the arginine. the Creatine and beta alanine give you extra reps but no extra NO.
Conclusion: C4 is popular because it is cheap (60$ for 2 at Cost CO) and has the right amounts of the right ingredients If you use 3 scoops. There are however a lot of other great ingredients they DON’T use, Just the 4 classic ones.
MET-RX Nuclear X is a GREAT pre workout. It has pretty much the same profile as C4 but with some other useful ingredients:
It has the same caffeine, beta alanine, arginine, and almost as much creatine as C4, but has 1000 mg Agmatine sulfate and 2000 mg Citrulline Malate. Arginine gives NO when NO synthase (NOS) acts on it to cleave the NO off the arginine. Agmatine sulfate increases the NOS! unfortunately it works better if you take it first thing in the morning, but its still a TON to put in a pre workout so with that amount it will probably work great. Also, arginine only give a pump for about 15 minutes. after its gone Citrulline malate regenerates it. BAssically you get 4 or 5 times the pump for longer with the 3 ingredients instead of just the arginine like in C4
Conclusion: Nuclear X is better than C4 since it give a way bigger Pump!
Epic By LG sciences is a specal kind of pre-workout. It focuses more on mental stimulation and focus and fat burning, not on increasing the blood flow to the muscle. This would be Ideal for Crossfit, Powerlifting, fat loss, or getting shredded before a show. I use this before my morning cardio, max effort lifts, or sets so low in reps a pump is impossible.

5 mg Kudzu ( increases natural Growth Hormone)
2 mg Muras puranas ( also increases Growth hormone)
Taurine 1000 mg (intramuscular energy and prevents cramping and lower back pump)
L-Carnitine L-Tartrate 1000 mg (increases energy transport to the mitochondria and increases androgen receptor density making the testosterone hormone more effective at building muscle)
Betaine Anhydrous 1000 mg (increases IGF-1 receptors making heavy lifting build more muscle)
Yohimbine HCl 1 mg (burns fat from hard to reach places like love handles and woman’s thighs)
NOCTURNUS HAS NO CAFFEINE OR YOHIMBINE all other ingredients are the same. For this reason Nocturnus is perfect for people who can’t have stimulants, or late workouts. you can also take it before bed to wake up leaner as the GH released burns fat while you sleep. and of course you can always add nocturnus to Wyked or any other pre workout. An excellent Idea is adding Nocturnus to Epic, Or C4 to make C4 a full powered pre workout!
