The 2014 Mr. Olympia results are pretty controversial this year. I was walking down the street in Las Vegas and on multiple occasions strangers would approach me and ask if Phil won. Just like that. Even Airport security were asking me what I thought and what I would expect to see next year.

The Results:

Phil Heath
Kai Greene
Shawn Rhoden
Dennis Wolf
Dexter Jackson

I have a different take on how the athletes should have placed. In my opinion:

Shawn Rhoden
Kai Greene
Phil Heath
Dennis Wolf
Dexter Jackson

Now please keep in mind that only the Judges sit close enough to truly assess conditioning. Conditioning is the most important attribute in bodybuilding. I could not see the conditioning in the athletes from where my seat was and the monitors were to dark to even make out that the athletes HAD glutes let alone what the fat content on those glutes were. What I could see was size, symmetry, and aesthetics. Shawn was as large as Kai and as symmetrical as Phil. Thus even if his conditioning was not equivalent, he would in theory be equal with the other two. Because he looked better to me, and I know his conditioning was close to what theirs’ was, I have him in 1st. Shawn Rhoden is what a bodybuilder should look like, he is the Ideal. Phil’s midsection is growing and Kai’s mid section seems to getting back up to where it was before. Wolf was a very close 4th and Dexter a close 5th.

The whole second callout looked great as well: Branch, Victor, Big Ramy all improved on their last Olympia Physiques.

One of the things I want to address that seems to be unique about this Olympia is the animosity and rivalry between Phil and Kai. On thursday they had a heated argument about who would win. On friday at prejudging they were hitting each other while in their comparison round, so much so that Kai missed 2 of his poses and Steve Weinberg had to separate them. If I had been judging Kai would have lost on my score sheet simply because I couldnt grade him on the two poses he missed.

The other concern I had was the quality of the Olympia. The dazzling video screens behind the athletes made it extremely hard to actually see the poses or any type of definition. The giant video monitor above the stage was at an angle so that again, the video screen ruined the view. Additionally the video monitor above the stage was super dark, so again no definition was visible.

The next Olympia I attend Im buying the best VIP package possible and thats that, Flying out to Vegas and all that it entails is worth it, if you can see what’s going on.
