Guy doing pushipsLooking at the label and claims, Vyotech 17-HD appears to be a replacement for steroids or the now banned andro. 17-HD, like many other supplements, supposedly helps the user build muscle, lose fat, and intensify their workouts. With so many bogus supplements on the market does 17-HD really live up to its claims and can it really deliver results as good as those obtained from andro?

Looking at the ingredients in 17-HD we see a blend of herbal extracts and natural ingredients. There is pretty obviously nothing steroidal in this formula despite the proprietary blend being given the name “17-Halo-Methyl-Diandrone” which truly does not mean anything at all.

Even with no steroidal ingredients this could be an effective formula that delivers results, so let’s take a look at the actual ingredients and dosages. Pueraria Lobota appears to be the main ingredient. This could be useful if it was standardize to it’s main active ingredient but in this case it is not. Unfortunately this ingredient contains not only substituents which are conducive to muscle building but also some that may be detrimental. Without a standardized extract you really don’t know what you’re getting here.

The supposed testosterone boosters smilax and wild yam extract are included in the formula. Wild yam has not shown itself to be particularly effective for enhancing athletic performance and although smilax may have some anecdotal evidence supporting its effects there is not much for actual research to support it usefulness as a sports supplement. Smilax has been on the supplement market for quite some time and there is a reason why it is not often included in testosterone boosters.

We also see some other potentially useful ingredients in 17-HD. Beta-Ecdysterone is included which has proven itself in scientific research and also anecdotally to be an effective muscle builder but unfortunately it must be used in very high doses to get any significant effect. 17-HD contains only 100mg of this ingredient per serving, only a small fraction of the amount required to get measurable results. Phosphatidylcholine is another potentially useful ingredient, in this case for controling cortisol, but again the dose of 50 mg per serving in 17-HD is just a fraction of the amount required for real results.

We were not able to determine what the ingredient “Glabra” is specifically because there are many herbs containing the word glabra. It is unknown what this is, what active constituents it contains, or if it has any use in this type of supplement.

Is 17-HD effective? Well, we don’t know for sure because of the vague supplement facts but our best guess is that 17-HD will not deliver results comparable that those obtained with the use of steroids or andro. The good news is that there are legal prohormones which convert to active steroids in the body and can deliver serious results. There are not many of these but the most effective and safest ones convert to testosterone. These use some derivative of DHEA such as 3beta-hydroxyandrost-5-ene-17-one as the actual prohormone and some also contain supporting ingredients.

What supporting ingredients are best to use with a prohormone to testosterone? For starters, an aromatase inhibitor will be useful to control the conversion of the prohormone to estrogen and encourage conversion to testosterone. In addition ingredients which slow the clearance of the prohormone and testosterone from the body are useful to extend the activity of the supplement. While many prohormones do contain some supporting ingredients the only one that we are aware of which includes a prohormone to testosterone as well as all of the desired supporting ingredients is LG Sciences Methyl 1-D or M1D Black.

Whichever product you decide to go with to pursue your muscle building goals be sure that it lives up to its claims. Prohormones are the most effective legal muscle builders available. Don’t be fooled by products claiming to provide steroid like gains which are not hormonal at all. Steroid like gains can only be achieved from steroids themselves and prohormones are truly the only way to provide a significant amount of a muscle building hormone like testosterone without resorting to illegal steroids.
